The Value of Lining Drapes

Image
Drapery lining serves many purposes, both aesthetic and practical.  Aesthetically, lining gives body and weight to a drapery panel , adding fullness to the folds and allowing it to hang with more substance.  Lining completes a drape with a polished and custom finish.   Practically, lining protects the face fabric from UV rays, extending the life of your custom drapes. It also helps protect the contents of the room from sun damage, including flooring, rugs, furniture and artwork. With our Design Tool , you can quickly and easily customize drapes, choosing from  a number of lining options . Regal Drapes lining options provide varying levels of light blocking depending upon your needs.  Premium privacy lining , included with all of our custom drapes, is 100% cotton and will block about 30% of the light.  Premium privacy lining gives you all of the benefits of a lined drape, but still lets soft light filter into the space.   Thermal dim out lining will block more lig

Where do I put the hardware?

Positioning Drapery Hardware        Where you place your curtain rods or tracks is the most important decision when designing custom window treatments.  Drapes are sized  based on the rod width and height so that the panels look full and beautiful when they are drawn closed.   We start, of course with the window width and height, but ultimately it will be the hardware that determines the finished dimensions of your custom drapes.     The Regal Drapes design tool  offers options to help you find the optimal panel sizes once you select the drapery style and fabric.  Wherever you start, the results will be based on your hardware placement.  If you enter window dimensions , the design tool will make some aesthetically appropriate assumptions and will add eight inches to the window width per side, and place the top of the rod six inches above the window.  This allows for some of the stack back to rest off of the glass to maintain and frame your view, and give the appearance of a longer win

Dressing Patio Doors

Designing drapes for patio doors can be particularly challenging.  A pair of panels, center split, raises the issue of egress, while a single panel requires extra attention to the hardware. Clients want beautiful fullness when the drapes are closed, and an unobstructed view when they are open.  There are many options and beautiful solutions to any patio door drapery need.   Pinch Pleat Drapes with Decorative Hardware Ripple Fold Drapes  Center Split     Decorative Track for  Ripple Fold Drapes   Patio doors are usually wide, so be sure to consider a sturdy drapery rod. Anything over five to six feet requires a support bracket, so a pair of panels is preferred. Remember that grommets cannot move past brackets, so again, a pair is the best solution.       Pinch Pleats  with Decorative Pole and Rings       Tailored Pleat Drapes  with Decorative Wood Hardware   A single panel may be the only option for some patio doors.  Pinch pleat or tailored pleat drapes are still a great choice p

Decorative Panels or Functional Drapes?

Image
When it comes to drapery panels , do they need to provide privacy, light or sound control, protection from heat or cold, or will they simply help frame a beautiful view?  These are the questions to consider when you are deciding between functional drapes or decorative panels. The width of functional drapes are determined by the rod or track you will be using.  They need to look beautiful and full when closed so rod width and height are the two most important numbers to calculate perfect panel sizes.  Fortunately, the Regal Drapes design tool will do all the heavy lifting and will calculate the panel size for any drapery style simply by entering the width and height of your curtain rod. If you don't have hardware in place, the design tool will help again.  By entering your window measurements, the design tool will place your curtain rod eight inches past the window on each side and raise it six inches above the top of the window.  You are welcome to make adjustments from her
